PHOENIX -- A nun and administrator at a Catholic hospital in Phoenix has been reassigned and rebuked by the local bishop for agreeing that a severely ill woman needed an abortion to survive.

Three quarters of Irish teenagers receive no education in Relationships and Sexuality, according to a survey of school students released today.
The study was carried out by young people under the guidance of a professional researcher.
It found that just 26% of second-level students received sex education in 2009.
Previous studies into the implementation of school programmes on Relationships and Sexuality Education have found high levels of participation.

Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.

Abortion is strictly outlawed in Tanzania in virtually all circumstances. The word itself is taboo, rarely spoken in polite society. Yet it takes only a few minutes to find a man in the backroom of a slum neighbourhood pharmacy who is quite willing to perform an illegal abortion.

The prestigious British medical journal The Lancet is chiding the Canadian government for refusing to put abortion funding on its G8 agenda.
An editorial in The Lancet says it's "hypocritical and unjust" that Canadian women can access safe abortions yet the government won't ensure that women living abroad can do the same.

Abortion patterns in the United States remain broad; women from their teens through 40s seek abortion, and they represent a spectrum of ethnic, educational, religious and economic groups. The big news out of Oklahoma is that a judge has put on hold a new state law requiring show-and-tell ultrasounds before abortions. What has received less attention, however, is its companion measure, which encourages your doctor to lie to you. This is evidently such a good thing that both houses were able to override a veto with no trouble.

MONTREAL — Singer Peter Gabriel weighed in on Canada's abortion debate on Wednesday, saying he believes in the medical procedure, particularly for young rape victims in war zones.
The former Genesis frontman was asked what he thought about Canada's decision to not support funding for abortions in developing nations.
That position is part of the G8 family planning initiative Prime Minister Stephen Harper will champion at a meeting in June.

Despite increasing efforts by doctors and advances in medicine, survival rates for babies born before the existing 24 week limit have not changed since the 1990s, a study has found.
The findings clash with previous research from one hospital in London which suggested that 40 per cent of babies born at 23 weeks survived.
That was used in evidence to MPs considering whether the abortion time limit should be lowered.
