CHOICE IRELAND TO URGE ACTION ON ROGUE CRISIS PREGNANCY CLINICS BEFORE OIREACHTAS COMMITTEE

Choice Ireland will call on the government to regulate the activities of rogue crisis pregnancy agencies in a presentation before the Oireachtas Joint committee on Health and Children tomorrow. [1 December, 2009]

Rogue Crisis pregnancy agencies use lies, manipulation and often bullying tactics to influence the decisions of women experiencing crisis pregnancy.

“Choice Ireland has been campaigning for regulation of these agencies for two years,” Ms. Ahern said. “Every day, rogue counselors are lying to women facing crisis pregnancies, and they are doing so with impunity. Legislation governing crisis pregnancy counseling only covers clinics which provide abortion information”

“We can not imagine any other area of medical care in which a situation like this would be allowed to continue. Not only is it dishonest it is dangerous” she said.

Choice Ireland is calling on the government to take action on two fronts, first by regulating the agencies themselves, and second by outlawing their deceptive advertising practices.

“Our report to the Joint Committee will outline the results of our investigations, the history of inaction on this issue and will detail proposed remedies,” Ms. Ahern said.
