Choice Ireland would first of all like to thank the committee for the opportunity to put forward the voices of the young women of Ireland who are at reproductive age and who will be most affected by this legislation. We would like to congratulate the government on finally commissioning a report on this, and assuring the Irish public that this will be dealt with in a timely manner.
Commenting spokesperson Sinead Ahern said “We welcome this announcement today and the fact that the government have now made a clear commitment to action on this issue. It is vital however that following this announcement, implementation of legislation is not further delayed. We are calling on the government to commit to a timescale to draft and implement legislation’.

Following the publication of the Report of the Expert Group on the Judgment in A,B and C v Ireland, Choice Ireland has called on the Government to act immediately on the options set out in the report.
Spokesperson Stephanie Lord said:
“It is obvious from the options set out in the Report that the Government are left with no option now but to legislate to provide lawful abortions for women where they have life threatening conditions. The Government did not need an Expert Group to tell them this but now that they have, it should be acted on immediately.
Speaking in advance of this week’s Dáil debate on legislation for the X Case, Choice Ireland called for cross-party support for the motion tabled by Sinn Féin calling on the government to introduce immediate legislation.
